    API Documentation

    Extract transcripts, generate AI summaries, translate content, and repurpose videos -- all through a simple REST API.

    Quick Start

    1. Create an account and upgrade to a plan with API access
    2. Go to Settings > Developer and create an API key
    3. Include your key in the Authorization: Bearer tg_live_... header
    4. Submit a YouTube URL to POST /jobs
    5. Retrieve the transcript from GET /jobs/{id}/transcript

    Authentication

    All API requests require a Bearer token in the Authorization header. API keys start with tg_live_ for production or tg_test_ for testing.

    API keys are available on every paid plan and the Free sandbox tier (100 requests/day, 1,000/month). Sign up, mint a key from the developer settings, and you're ready. Each key tracks usage independently and can be revoked at any time. No credit card required to start.

    Webhooks

    Register a webhook URL to receive notifications when jobs complete or fail. We POST a JSON payload signed with HMAC-SHA256.

    Verify the signature by computing HMAC-SHA256(timestamp + "." + payload, your_signing_secret) and comparing with the v1 value. Deliveries retry 3 times with exponential backoff (30s, 5m, 30m).

    MCP Server (Claude, Cursor, ChatGPT)

    Transcript Guru speaks the Model Context Protocol at https://transcriptguru.io/mcp. Configure it once in your LLM client with your API key and the tools appear next to any other MCP server you use. The endpoint supports current Streamable HTTP clients and existing legacy connections.

    Credit Costs

    YouTube captions are free on every plan. Credits are charged for AI features and audio uploads. Use POST /jobs/estimate to preview the exact cost before submitting. Credits are reserved on submission and refunded if the job fails.
